About Us

Farnborough Gate is a small bowls club tucked away at the bottom of Ringwood Road, behind The Ship Inn and the Farnborough Gate Shopping centre. We moved to our current location in 1998 after the closure of the old RAE Sports and Social Club. We are a friendly club and whether you come on your own or with someone else you will find a warm welcome here.

We offer a wide range of bowling experiences. You may just wish to come along for an occasional roll up with fellow bowlers, Wednesday afternoon being a particularly popular time. As a newcomer you have reduced fees in the first year and if you have never bowled, then we can make sure that you get some guidance as well as encouragement as you master the art of bowling.

In line with other clubs, we are also keen to attract established bowlers and can offer a large variety of fixtures and competitions. In the Summer season we enter a Men's team in the Tuesday night Aldershot and District league whilst the ladies play in the Blackwater Valley league on a Friday evening. Mixed teams are also entered in various local leagues including Farnham and District on a Wednesday evening and the Stan Hardman on a Thursday afternoon. There are also opportunities to enter County and North Hants competitions either individually or as part of a team.

Most week-ends there is a friendly match against a local team. These are open to all full members and are played in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere ...... most of the time!!!! We like to think of ourselves as friends first, but that doesn't mean that we don't try to play our best and we can be as competitive as the next! Friendlies offer a gentle introduction to competition and are a nice way to get to grips with the customs and practices of the game. There is nothing better than being out on the green on a sunny afternoon and then after the game, with glass in hand, putting the world to rights with fellow bowlers.

The club is busy all the year round as we have regular social events in the winter months, but also have the facilities for short mat which is available most days. This explains why we have a large number of social members who contribute a lot to the life of the club.

We could be the answer if you are looking for a new activity. an opportunity to make new friends or simply want to bowl at a club that offers good facilities and a very pleasant environment.
